Welcome! I’m Alisha… wife to Brad (the most sincere & loving man I’ve ever met), mommy to three little boys, and a DIY project addict.
It is never a dull day in our home. I’m high energy and am raising 3 boys with the same trait. Yes… 3 boys! It means lots of dirt, lots of noise, and lots of chaos, but nothing makes me happier than being their mommy. When I’m not playing queen of the castle, I am often having playdates with friends, dance parties in the grocery store, or am enjoying a large glass of wine or a margarita with my hubby!
“Makeovers & Motherhood: makeovers of the heart and home” is a result of my three biggest passions: being a better mom to my little darlings, making a lovely home, and writing.
Makeovers of the heart:
My goal in parenting is to raise my boys to be kind, caring, and sympathetic to others, always praising God and knowing Him intimately. I love to hear them pray (even when they thank God for their BBQ sauce and their bikes)! With that being said though, we definitely have our bad days and our many loud, chaotic moments. But in those moments, we are all learning about giving grace and forgiveness, and being thankful for the mercy that is shown to us by our Heavenly Father.
As you well know, motherhood is a constant journey. Some days I could proudly display a big ‘S’ Super Mom badge across my chest, while other days well… let’s not talk about those. My heart as a wife and mom is constantly learning, constantly changing, softening to the needs of my family, and constantly seeking new truths & guidance from God. These experiences are my heart makeovers.
Makeovers of the home:
My desire for our home is to be a comfortable, peaceful refuge for our family. I feel this is a God-honoring way to serve my family and those whom we welcome through our door.
The home makeovers I’ll share are thrifty ways to decorate and organize, especially homes with young children. I often find that the more I’m stressed, the more each member of our family is stressed and one thing that super stresses me is an unorganized home. The more clutter, the more mess, the less time I get to spend with Brad and the boys. (That’s not to say you won’t find piles in our house, but those are my works in progress.)
When I asked my hubby about this part of my personality, he’d described me as “particular, highly organized, fun, colorful, giving great attention to details, and excited about organizing and redecorating.”
Needless to say HGTV is my favorite thing to watch, especially Dear Genevieve. I take my inspiration from our family first of all, then from style shows, and lastly some seasonal trends found in stores. I strive for a classic look that will last years and can be tweaked with hints of trendy colors. I like mixing old and new and I love a good bargain. We have received many compliments on our decorating style and been asked by many friends for decorating & color tips for their own homes.
My hope in this blog is that you will find encouragement as a mom, creative ideas for your home, and community with others of the same heart.
Meet the Boys!
Connor is a fun-loving 4 1/2 year old. He is such a sweet child with amazing amount of compassion and love for others. He has a fantastic sense of humor, a great imagination, and a very inquisitive mind. He loves learning how things work and I love watching him learn & explore. His face is full of expression… his little eyes have such a glimmering smile to them and speak volumes for how he feels. He is diligently working through a severe speech delay at his preschool where his teachers say what a joy he is in class and what a good leader he is.
Dylan is a goofy and very mischievous 3-year old. He has a distinct high-pitched “chipmunk” voice (ironic as he used to call everyone a chipmunk). He has an angelic little smile and laugh, but quite an ornery personality. I recently discovered my mother nicknamed him “The Professional” as in “professional fit thrower”. While his feisty-ness can be quite challenging at times, he truly is such a joy to be around. Dylan always makes me smile. The way he prances around the house with happiness and displays his excitement is adorable. So is his love for his brothers… he soaks in everything his big brother teaches him and then eagerly tries to pass on his new knowledge to Ethan.
Ethan is an incredibly happy, easily excitable, and extremely loving one-year old. His previous nickname of “Tiny” (ironic because of his large size) has more appropriately been replaced with “The Animal”. He loves to wrestle his big brothers down and crawl over them… we call it his “attack mode”. Forget baby toys for this little guy, in his own mind he is one of the big boys. He is an absolute hoot to be around. From his fake laughs to his funny faces, this baby brings lots of laughter and joy to our family.
