Awesome Apple Dumplings

Impress your guests with country apple dumplings… that are quick and easy! Years ago, I came across a soda, crescent roll, apple dumpling recipe. It seemed rather peculiar to me, but I gave it a shot. And I loved it. Loved how easy it was, loved how delicious it was… and then of course, I lost it! When I searched for diet soda apple dumplings online, I found tons of recipes. But they all have tons of sugar in them (over 1+ cups)!

I love to treat my family to desserts, but I don’t find sugar to be the treat I want to give them. In an effort to cut down on some of that sugar, I decided to create my own recipe… and I tried it out on friends. Oh, do I owe them an apology! The smell of the dumplings baking was delightful. But coming out of the oven, they looked well… not so delicious.

This dumpling dilemma has eaten at me all week. I kept asking myself “What is it I’m really looking for in this recipe”? And it hit me! I want the “goo” of a sticky bun with a tart apple surprise in the middle. So I ran to the basement, grabbed the cookbook my mother-in-law had put together of my hubby’s favorites, and anxiously flipped through the pages for her sticky bun recipe. As excited as a kid at Christmas, I got busy pouring and scooping and stirring and… I came up with the perfect, most awesome apple dumpling!

With only a half cup of sugar and only 10 minutes of prep time, the result was a personal apple pie with a gooey oozing center and a perfect, golden flaky top. I have to say, I impressed myself.

Even after years of making this recipe, it still doesn’t look pretty. But it is so darn delicious and when you drizzle it with an extra spoonful of the sweet, gooey sauce… it doesn’t matter what it looks like. This dessert is absolutely irresistible!

Two more quick things I should tell you before you get cooking…

    1. Instead of using Sugar in the Raw like the recipe calls for, I use brown sugar Stevia. So my sauce is darker than what you’ll get if you follow the recipe. No biggie. It just means our ingredients varied a little. It’s still super delish!

  1. Vanilla ice cream is good with the dumplings. But if you want a WOW factor, serve the dumplings with a Sea Salted Caramel ice cream! OMGoodness… it is the absolute best way to eat them!
