Connor goes to Pre-K on Monday mornings. So last night as I tucked Dylan in, I asked what he would prefer to do today… stay home and play in the basement (the playroom is in the basement) or go to the YMCA. He chose to stay home and play.
Sometimes staying home and not having an agenda or anywhere to go is such a welcome break. It sometimes surprises me to see how much the boys love it. And it feels like such a relief to me.
The funny thing is, Dylan and Ethan really seemed to embrace their morning at home. I always take down the laptop and I work on laundry while the boys play, but usually get little done since I’m often busy playing referee. But this morning… the boys played so happily and nicely together that the atmosphere was just cheerful and peaceful.
I have chosen to send Connor and Dylan to preschool on separate days for this very reason. Ethan loves getting one-on-one playtime with his big brothers. Usually Connor and Dylan pair up and play together (and often they play “here comes the animal” a.k.a. Ethan or they pretend Ethan is the bad guy… sigh). But these days when Ethan gets a morning with just one of his big brothers is precious. He gets the attention of that brother and actual play time with them. He LOVES it and I love watching them interact with each other.
