Yesterday we went to my cousin’s house for Thanksgiving. As we opened the door and stepped inside, the flavorful aromas of green bean casserole and mashed potatoes along with warm hellos and hugs greeted us. Aaaaah… Thanksgiving!
I love the holidays. My family is very close and can make any occasion an occasion for getting together (which I really miss being 3.5 hours away from them). So the holidays are even more wonderful now… a whole day with the people I love. A day of catching up, a day of stories, a day of laughs. I love how well all the children play together. I love when my boys emerge from the playroom and greet me with an “I love you, Mommy!” Then they share with me the fun they’ve been having with their cousins, and with a big hug are off again for more playtime.
Of course there is a feast spread down the counter tempting us with its array of deliciousness. Cheese balls, cauliflower salad, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, dinner rolls, smoked turkey, corn, Jello jigglers, and pumpkin pie… mmmmm!
Once again, Thanksgiving Day has been a reminder of the ways that we are blessed… food on our plates, a warm home, and wonderful family. And the days leading up to this day of celebration we have provided us a chance to express our gratitude of all the many, many reasons we have to be thankful.
Today (well actually yesterday) concludes the “A Family Full of Thanksgiving” series. As we transition into the next holiday season of Christmas, my hope is that we continue to show thankfulness for all the ways we have been blessed.
